Meet Teacher Trainer Guru Singh
Kundalini Yoga Level 1 Teacher Training at Yoga West
~ Guru Singh
Guru Singh was born to a family of yogis, and Paramahansa Yogananda was his first teacher. In January 1969, Guru Singh met Yogi Bhajan, Master of Kundalini Yoga, in Los Angeles. From that moment on, Guru Singh studied the sacred science of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation directly with Yogi Bhajan, and soon after began teaching as well. Guru Singh was one of Yogi Bhajan's very first students, and not only had the blessing to study yoga and meditation directly with him, but also was his personal driver in the early days. Over the years, Guru Singh was guided by his spiritual teacher in the yoga of life and humanology, the yoga of business, and the yoga of relationships and community.

A teacher for the past 43 years, Guru Singh has also been a Teacher Trainer at Yoga West since the program's inception in 1994. Guru Singh incorporates the core concept of "Grishtha Ashram" strongly in his teaching, the life of an enlightened householder. This is a spiritually purposeful life of service that follows a path of enlightenment while raising families and participating fully in the in the real-world of work, worship and community building. In addition to teaching in Los Angeles and around the world, Guru Singh is an author, musician, recording artist, counselor and sound healer.
Guru Singh teaches a substantial portion of the Kundalini Yoga Level 1 Teacher Training course at Yoga West. He joyfully shares that this is most favorite class to teach. Guru Singh says of Teacher Training:

It isn't about becoming a teacher to other people; it is about becoming a teacher to yourself. Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo, the Adi Mantra that we chant at the beginning of every class, is about bowing to the great teacher within, the higher conscious within. We can't take advantage of that great teacher, that higher consciousness, unless we awaken to it. And so, Teacher Training is really awakening to the teacher within.

“If you want to learn something, read about it.
If you want to understand something, write about it.
If you want to master something, teach it.”

Sacred Sound Workshop
Saturday, August 10, 3-6pm $45 early bird, $60 day of
with Jugat Guru S. Khalsa

There are a few rare individuals who not only understand the subject that they teach, can share it intelligently yet in a manner that is accessible to everyone, allow their audience to have a true experience of what is being taught, but beyond all this, who embody what they teach and whose powerful radiating presence is a way of teaching onto itself. Jugat Guru Singh is such a rare teacher.

After growing up and studying under the guidance of Yogi Bhajan, Jugat Guru went on to dedicate his life to serving the mission of Yogi Bhajan by helping to shape the next generation of leaders and teachers of this amazing technology of Kundalini Yoga and the science of the Naad (meditative sound current) it uses. He has been a KRI Certified Kundalini Yoga teacher and Lead Trainer (Level 1 and Level 2) at Miri Piri Academy in India for the last 15 years and is the most popular principal of the Academys history, having earned the respect and trust of all the students in his charge a most critical and demanding audience for any Kundalini Yoga Teacher. Yogi Bhajan gave Jugat Guru the japa (11,000 consecutive repetitions) of Kundalini Surjhee as a meditative practice. Now, under the mentorship of Guru Dev Singh (Master Healer of Sat Nam Rasayan® declared a living saint by Yogi Bhajan) he leads japas of the Kundalini Surjhee mantra around the world and co-leads in Guru Devs japas of the ReMan mantra; tasks that require unbelievable meditative stability and strength.

Particularly knowledgable in the science of the Naad, Jugat Guru has studied and practiced under several masters in India for the last 12 years, and had the privilege of sitting directly with Yogi Bhajan to enrich his understanding of this vast and intricate science. Jugat Guru is also a member of the beloved Chardi Kala Jatha and as such travels extensively teaching and performing Kirtan (devotional singing) all around the world. This group of musicians (ragis) is the only group of Westerners invited to play at the Golden Temple in India, a testament to their amazing mastery of the technique.

Practice learning to recognize and create an effective, meditative, accurate frequency in the sounds and mantras of Kundalini Yoga using Yogi Bhajan teachings, and Kundalini Yoga and Meditations.

TEN GURUS MANDALA
Painted by Sewa Singh Now Available at Yoga West

Sewa Singh originally painted this mandala as an expression of his gratitude to the teachings of Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma. The original painting has faded, and so this new print has been digitally restored by artist and Kundalini yogi Stephen Stickler to the color of the original piece. Yoga West is offering a limited number of these prints, both framed and unframed for a limited time.

“One day in the early 1990s the Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) was at my office and as he was leaving he looked at the Mandala and told me, ‘This Mandala has special powers. You need to always keep a copy with you.’ The next day I was talking to the Siri Singh Sahib on the phone and I asked him what are the special powers of this Mandala. He said, ‘The Mandala contains all the powers of all the ten Sikh Gurus.’ This is similar to the story of the Tratakum photo. When the Siri Singh Sahib was looking at the photos from that photo shoot, he stopped at the Tratakum and said (the story goes), ‘This is not me. This photo is the entire lineage.’ So I have always considered the Mandala along with the Tratakum photo to be the two most important works of art in the Dharma.”
